Beeswax wraps can certainly help reduce or even eliminate the use of plastic wrap in your house; plastic wrap is not typically recyclable in a curbside bin and like all plastic, has the possibility of leeching toxins into food. This is a variety pack that I have personally used. I like using the small and medium sizes to wrap up half used onions, apples, oranges, or cover mixing bowls etc. The largest beeswax wrap has been handy as a cover on casserole dishes, large bowls or wrapping baked goods. I wrapped a handful of cookies up in the large cover one time and they stayed contained in my diaper bag no problem. Beeswax wraps will get you a "pretty good" seal, but I wouldnt consider it "air tight". I like having them in my house because they have absolutley helped me reduce my eliminate plastic wrap (along with using good food storage containers with lids); so often an airtight seal isn't truly neccessary (take a half eaten apple for instance, even if I used plastic wrap, the cut flesh would brown and I would cut if off when eating the apple later regardless, but the beeswax wrap does help keep anything else from touching it, containing any juices, and transporting it if need be). End of life: completely compostable and can also be used a fire starter in your backyard! NOTE:You must wash these with cool water, and only scrub then mildly. This hasn't been a problem for me as I don't use them for raw meat or anything that needs sanitizing. Life expectancy is ~1 year with regular use. I recommend you get a variety pack if you are interested in eliminating or reducing plastic wrap or disposable ziplocks simply because its a good introduction to the size options and I believe you will find many uses for them :)
